The images I uploaded are of Cabinet Ministers, the highest rank of a minister in India. They are in cream of all politicians and I believe they do deserve a photo on Wikipedia. If derivations are not allowed I believe, only 3 images should be deleted, not all. Further, I believe we can use modifications as long as it is not used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context, as said in the statement. GaneshBhakt (talk) 08:33, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that these are important people, and certainly they do deserve a photo on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, that's not really the deciding factor in determining if content is free for our use. What the license says, specifically, is "The material must be reproduced accurately and not used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context." Note that these are two clauses separated by an "and", which means that both conditions must be fulfilled. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:37, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I came here to see why the pictures had been deleted. I agree with user:Moonriddengirl assessment - the license being offered by the Indian government is not compatible with Wikipedia's requirements. In particular, the Indian governments' insistence that the pictures never be used for anything which could be considered derogatory is incongruent with Wikipedia ideas.   • Delete: there is no evidence that Penguin books has given their consent to freely licence this image as claimed by the uploader. Besides which, the fair -use claim contradicts the free licence but if it is not free then it cannot be used in the infobox of the author but only in the infobox of an article about the book itself under a fair-use claim. ww2censor (talk) 15:34, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Photo of a pamphlet cover from 1965, tagged as "own work", probably in error. It seems the uploader meant to say they took the photograph, but it seems inherently unlikely they are the author of the pamphlet (or of the image printed on the pamphlet, for that matter).
